Asli Mutlu

PhD candidate

Asli Mutlu is a PhD candidate at the Department of Multi Actor Systems, Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. She holds a Master’s degree in Spatial, Transport and Environmental Economics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She employed a hedonic price model in her master thesis to analyze the effect of rapid transit stations on housing prices in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. After acquiring the master’s degree, she worked as a research assistant in the department of Spatial Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

In the Center for Social Complexity of Climate Change, Asli works on developing a spatial Agent-Based Model to understand the socio-economic impacts of Nature-Based Solutions. She focuses on behavioral aspects of economic choices that households make on where to live and how to adapt, and on dynamic opinion dynamics models regarding evolving risks and acceptability of NBS. The model will benefit from the behavioral data gathered from the largest river restoration project of the Netherlands, the Border Meuse (Grensmaas). Eventually, she aims to help stakeholders to quantify impacts and visualize tradeoffs of Nature-Based Solutions and flood hazards that grow with climate change.

She is a swimming coach and loves spending the whole day in the water! She also enjoys very much following independent movie festivals and concerts.
